- Started his musical career as a lead vocalist and guitarist for a country band and performed many popular Kenny Rogers songs of the time, but never consciously tried to imitate Kenny.
- While recording an album at a studio (as himself) the producer observed that not only did he bear a striking resemblance to the country great, but he actually sounded like Kenny Rogers!
- Not until 1998 when he produced his first annual benefit concert, a concert that raises money to help abused children, did he try the Kenny Rogers tribute act. It went over so well he was asked to repeat the performance at other venues.
- His critically acclaimed tribute to Kenny Rogers has since, raised thousands of dollars for charity, and delighted audiences ever since!
- He uses his talent to perform free for several fundraisers.

- Has met Kenny Rogers twice since starting the tribute. Once in Billings, Montana, in 1998 when he was invited to go backstage to meet Kenny and have a photograph taken.
- A second meeting with Kenny Rogers when Rogers was performing and in between songs, asked Marty to stand up and face the audience. Rogers then proceded to introduce Marty to the audience remarking about the amazing resemblance.
